What is eligible for funding?

ProFIT Project Funding supports individual and collaborative projects at various stages of the innovation process:

  • Industrial research,
  • experimental development,
  • production setup,
  • market preparation,
  • market launch,
  • and early-stage financing for young technology companies

 

Eligible expenses:

  • Project-related personnel expenses,
  • external services,
  • material expenses,
  • intellectual property applications,
  • expenses for market launch and market preparation,
  • indirect project expenses


Who is eligible for funding?

SMEs

Individually or in partnership with companies or research institutions

Non-SMEs

Only in partnership with SMEs and research institutions

Research institutions

Only in partnership with at least one company

How is funding provided?

ProFIT project financing is earmarked in the form of project funding, generally provided as equity financing:

  • As a grant for companies and research institutions in the industrial research phase
  • As a grant for research institutions and non-SMEs in the experimental development phase*
  • As a loan primarily for SMEs in the experimental development, production setup, market preparation, and market launch phases

Funding rates and grants:

Project funding through grants is limited to a total of 400,000 euros per project or project partner. Funding through loans amounts to a maximum of 1 million euros per project.

 

Maximum base funding rates based on eligible expenses:

Industrial research phase: generally up to 50%

Experimental development phase: generally up to 25%

Non-SMEs in the experimental development phase: generally up to 10%

Possible increases to the basic funding rates:

SME bonus:

+20% for small enterprises+10% for medium-sized enterprises
Collaboration bonus:

+10% for collaboration between at least two independent enterprises involving at least one SME+15% for collaboration between at least one enterprise and at least one research institution**
The maximum funding rate of 80% must not be exceeded

 

 

Additional Information

A branch office or organizationally independent business location in Berlin is required for this funding.

*Grants to SMEs for experimental development: if the project is an R&D&I project for which funding is applied for under thematic calls based on these guidelines.

**Even in the case of collaborations between project partners from Berlin and partners outside Berlin, the basic funding rates may be increased by a consortium bonus.
