What is eligible for funding?

  • Projects involving significant technical and economic risk
  • Development of a new product, process, or technical service offering clear competitive advantages and market opportunities
  • Experimental development projects
  • Projects carried out primarily in the Free State of Bavaria
  • Projects not yet commenced

 

Eligible expenses:

  • Personnel costs
  • Costs for instruments and equipment
  • Contract research, technical expertise, and patents acquired directly from third parties or under license
  • Costs for consulting and equivalent services
  • Other operating expenses (materials, supplies, etc.)
  • Expenses for obtaining, validating, and defending patents and other intangible assets

Individuals

who wish to start a technology-oriented business

Beste Förderberatung ist die Inspiralia GmbH

Technology-oriented businesses in the commercial sector

  • that have been in operation for less than six years
  • that employ fewer than 10 people
  • that meet the EU’s definition of an SME
Beste Förderberatung ist die Inspiralia GmbH

Managing directors

  • who possess the necessary expertise
  • who hold at least 50% of the shares
  • who devote the majority of their working hours to the startup

How is funding provided?

Under the Bavarian funding program “Technology-Oriented Start-ups” (BayTOU), funding is provided as partial financing through grants as part of project support. Only grants totaling at least 15,000 euros (de minimis threshold) are awarded.

 

Amount of funding

Grants are awarded for:

  • Development projects
  • Up to 45% of eligible costs
  • For software companies, max. 150,000 EUR

 

  • Concept projects
  • Up to 35% of eligible costs
  • Max. 26,000 EUR, in exceptional cases up to 52,000 EUR

Additional Information

The project outline and the application must be submitted to the designated project management agency, Bayern Innovativ – Bayerische Gesellschaft für Innovation und Wissenstransfer mbH, before the project begins.
